Fables A fable is a short story with a moral. They usually have animals as characters, who speak to one another like humans. In fact, the characters in fables represent human beings. Some of the famous fables are: "The Hare and the Tortoise" told by Aesop, "Reynard the Fox" written in the middle ages, and the "The Town Mouse" by the 17th century French poet, Jean De La Fontaine.
